Children: Hannah, Christopher
Current Ministry: Harare Theological College
Mission Board: The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) http://www.teamworld.org/
David is a lecturer and the principal of the Harare Theological College where we train Christian leaders for ministries in Zimbabwe and beyond. This year we have 126 students at different levels of our 4 programs. We added an honors program which will work towards a masters degree. We also started a satellite class about 1 hour from the school this past term. David will be traveling and teaching the Banket satellite class this next term. We have a bookstore at the college which serves to supply our students and the Christian community with Bibles and good books which relate to the studies being done at the college. Some US churches have helped with this ministry. David is also on the board for two different orphanage outreaches in Zimbabwe, one with approx. 250 kids in the farming community and the other which has 15 different ministries around the city of Harare.
The Hands of Hope orphanage outreach partners with churches in Zimbabwe already working with children at risk. HOH matches US churches with local churches in ministries in Zimbabwe. Sue's main ministry is to coordinate the short-term outreaches in Zimbabwe for TEAM and which has already seen 55 short-termers come through the TEAMServe program this year. Some help at the orphanages or with orphanage support work (computer data and repairs). Others at the Karanda Mission Hospital as doctors and nurses. Many are college students but a growing number are professionals and retirees look for what God can do with their life, experience and talents. Sue also co-leads a ladies Bible study at my church and interacts lots with young adults in the community. Together, we host a Wednesday night house group in our home for adults and another for the young adults group. Sue makes the tea and cakes and David the coffee! People come for his coffee! And for the TEAM-Zimbabwe/Mozambique ministry area, Sue is the member care person looking after the needs of the missionaries and David will be the acting area leader for this group of missionaries in these two ministry areas. This responsibility will mean lots of traveling and relationship time but we look forward to serving in this way. They are a great group of missionaries to work with, just like family.
And what do we like to do when we are not doing our ministry responsibilities? David loves to hunt and fish (which is a great outreach to men). He plays squash (like American racquet ball) and watches just about any sport on tv especially rugby. Sue enjoys card making, table games and baking especially with Hannah and Chris or her other 'adopted kids. We both enjoy game drives and camping in the wild. What do we miss most from the US? Stores filled with whatever you could possible want and more. And GOOD CHICAGO STYLE DEEP DISH PIZZA! What do we miss most from Zimbabwe when we are in the US? Good chats around a braai (bbq), rugby and Indian food!
