Jim & Ginny Tomlinson
Field: Papua New Guinea
Current Ministry: Translation Support
Mission Board: Wycliffe Bible Translators http://www.wycliffe.org/
Jim and Ginny have served with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Papua New Guinea since 1989. Their ministry in community development assists translation teams in meeting needs of people in remote villages. Jim’s training is in agriculture and Ginny’s is in nursing allowing them to minister to the physical and health needs of the local people. They have served in many parts of the country from the low coastal plains to the mountainous highlands. Jim and Ginny came back to the US in 2007 to care for their parents and they have worked with Wycliffe USA as personnel administrators as they cared for their parents the last few years that they lived. They are currently planning on returning to Papua New Guinea in July 2011. Jim has been asked to work with government and village level representatives to develop a strategy for starting a Bible translation project in the languages in Madang province without a Bible in their language. Surveys have identified over 100 separate translation needs remaining in that province alone. Ginny will be on staff for an orientation course in Madang helping new missionaries understand culture and ways to adapt to living in Papua New Guinea. Wycliffe’s Vision 2025 seeks to have begun translation in every remaining language in the world by the year 2025.
